Driver surveillance is in demand everywhere: in cities, at a national level, in small and large companies. Businesses themselves and auditing bodies carry out surveillance. Information regarding the completion of drivers’ work tasks is used in many countries to regulate drivers’ salaries. At the current time, driver surveillance is carried out in two ways: via log books and via tachometers.
The LogBook Module is the electronic equivalent. With access to this electronic journal, the driver can fill out information about their completed trips.
Any information about driver trips can be entered into the journal regardless of the means of transport. Based on the parameters entered by either the driver or the operator, there are two types of trips: private and work. For example, on non-working days the system will automatically only record private trips. This is possible thanks to the working calendar uploaded into the system. The trip type can be changed using manual entry. In addition to this, users can, at any time and place, allocate the reason for the initiation of a work trip during a non-working day, showing the purpose for the trip.
It is important to note that the electronic logbook is widespread and used in many countries with developed transport infrastructure such as the USA, South Africa, Sweden, Norway, Germany and France. The electronic journal helps both the governmental and corporate sector to reduce costs and discipline staff. The information age comes with new demands for the speed and quality of personnel surveillance.
In addition, the electronic journal gives a lot of useful information: fuel costs, toll roads, driver rating, driving behaviour. This information stimulates the drivers’ KPI and also show how useful they are.
The electronic journal gives drivers access to spending limits and status and types of trips in real time.
In general, the key advantages of using the electronic logbook are:
- Electronic workflow of driver accountability;
- Timely information input regarding limits and driver infringements;
- Independent control of KPIs by drivers.
